Doyle Rexford Avant was born 22 Sep 1895 in Temple, Bell, Texas, United States to James Avant and Sarah Livingston.

In Sep of 1912 Doyle Avant left yesterday for Norman where he will enter the college for the ensuing term.

In May of 1914 he accepted the position of clerk in the post office in Durant.

In March of 1918 Lieut. Doyle Avant, of the 6th Calvary, U.S.A. stationed at Fort Sam Huston, San Antonio, was here visiting relatives and friends several days the past week. Doyle was looking fine and said all the boys were in the best of spirits and wanted to go over there. He said they might expect "fall in" orders at any time. While here he was the guest of his old time friend, Hiram Impson.

He married Mary Nagy, daughter of Elizabeth and Joseph Nagy, on January 1, 1921, in Millett, Texas. They had three children in 14 years. He attended Bryan County, Oklahoma schools and the University of Oklahoma. During World War I, he enlisted as a private and was in the 14th Cavalry. In 1919 he was discharged as a First Lt.

He was a partner with his father in the mercantile in Dilley, Texas and later opened another store in Millett, Texas. He closed the Millett location upon the death of his father. In the late 1930's the Dilley store was closed as well. Doyle then worked as a bookkeeper in Cotulla, Hebbronville and Laredo.
