Maedell was born Jan. 3, 1937, in Jimtown, Okla., to the late Robert Vinson Stroope and Gladys Agnes Miller. She was a homemaker, a volunteer at East Texas Medical Center Hospital, and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and Women's Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee Avants in 1986.
Survivors include sons, Earnest Avants, Tyler, Vince Avants, Murchison, and David Avants, Arlington; daughters, Brenda Bell, Whitehouse, and Terri Benton, Cottageville, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
