Virginia Pearl Avent Turner, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.  

Virginia Pearl Avent was born in Waco, Texas, on August 28, 1923, to parents, Oscar Louis and Ora (Smith) Avent who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joel L. Turner Sr.; brothers, Lee Allen Avent, Richard Oscar Avent, Manuel Avent, and Oscar Louis Avent Jr.; sister, Camilla Ora Avent. 

Survivors include sister Gladys Klein of California; daughter Connie Sue Sherbert and husband Bob of Cypress, Texas; sons Joel L. Turner Jr. and Wini Walker Turner of Nacogdoches, John Robert Turner and wife Cheryl, of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren Suzanne Smith and husband Shane, of Pensacola, Florida, Stephen Sherbert and wife Natalie, of Seattle, Washington, Trey Turner and wife Lindsey, of Nacogdoches, Laura Turner of Nacogdoches, Matthew Turner and John Marshall Turner of Grapevine. Great-grandchildren are Wade Smith and Morgan Smith of Pensacola and Trevor Sherbert of Seattle. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. 

Virginia graduated from Big Spring High School (Texas) in 1941 and married Joel L. Turner Sr. in Paris, Texas, on September 5, 1942. As the wife of a career Army officer, she and her family lived in and visited many locations throughout the world. Virginia and family moved to Nacogdoches in 1964. She had a passion for her church, sewing and needle crafts, writing, and her church. Her love for her Lord and her family were first and foremost in her life. Virginia dedicated herself to raising her children and instilling in them a love of Christ, a teaching she continued with her grandchildren. "Mammaw" was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
