Royce served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps flying in B17s and B24s.

Edna was a Graduate of University High and attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven and the University of Miss, where she was a Member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

She was crowned Miss Oxford in 1936.

She was married to R. E. "Rusty" Shellabarger, a former Pilot in the U. S. Army Air Corps and a World War II Prisoner of War, who died in 1967.

She worked at the Charleston SC Navy Yard during World War II, then returned home and worked in the J. D. Williams Library and the Air Force ROTC at Ole Miss.

n 1971, she was elected to the first of four terms as Lafayette County Circuit Clerk.
She was a Member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, John Edward Avent and Carra Lee Furr Avent; and 2 Brothers, John Edward "Sally" Avent and Benjamin Wesley Avent.

Survivors include her Children, Lee Myrl Shellabarger McKenzie and Husband, Danny, of Tupelo; R. E. "Buzzy" Shellabarger, Jr. and Wife, Judi, of Memphis, TN; and Sally Avent Shellabarger Worsham and Husband, Danny, of Oxford; four Grandchildren and a Great Granddaughter.
