Edith Belle (McCray) Avants died Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Stillwater Medical Center.
Avants was born on Dec. 8, 1908 in McKey, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma to Leonard and Maggie McCray. She married Walter Edward Avants on Sept. 26, 1925 in Sallisaw.
She is the mother of nine living children, 31 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 61 great-great-grandchildren, all who will miss her greatly. She loved her family and her greatest wish was that she would have loved to have all her children living near her. Life here on earth has its beginning and end to be taken up again in heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Barton McCray, Jack McCray, Alva McCray, and Archie McCray; four sisters Sally Avants, Jessie McNally Ray, Inez Smith and Imogene Clifton; her husband; one son-in-law, Mark Albright; two grandsons, Dennis Albright and Michael Avants; and one great-grandson.
Avants is survived by her nine children: Elmer Avants and wife Joanie, Edgewood, N.M.; Gladys Hickman and husband Wilburn, Phoenix; Della Mae Upshaw and husband Burl, Camp Verde, Ariz.; Jessie Marie VanZandt and husband Edgar, Stillwater; Leona Fall and husband Kenn, Gillett, Wyo.; Walt Avants and wife Donnie, Cresent; Ernestine Brown and husband Ronald, Mannford; and Leon Avants and wife Susan, Enid.
