George Walter Phenton Avent, 85, of Bolivar, died Tuesday afternoon, March 15, 2005 at Bolivar General Hospital.

The husband of Helen Darby Avent, who survives, he was retired as a maintenance supervisor with International Shoe Company in 1982 and was most recently a farmer. Mr. Avent was born February 26, 1920 in Hardeman County, son of the late Sam and Hester Callahan Avent and lived here most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Farm Bureau as well as the Bemis Church of Christ.

Mrs. Cardenas passed away Sunday afternoon, October 2, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

A native of Bolivar, she was the daughter of the late Phenton and Ena Marie Adams Avent and lived most of her life in Hardeman County. She married Mr. P. J. Cardenas on April 30, 1988 in Chester County and he departed this life on February 15, 2020.

She was a 1966 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and, in her younger years, she had been a member of Middleburg Baptist Church. She loved hunting, fishing on Avent Lake, four-wheelers and visiting with family.

She leaves four sisters, Elizabeth McCommon of Piperton, Hazel Aldrich of Houston, AK, Elane Haino of Bolivar and Georgia (John B.) Philip of Germantown; one brother, Bill (Brenda) Avent of Columbia, TN; one brother-in-law, Gene Hammons (husband of deceased sister, Emily); and one sister-in-law, Donna Avent (wife of deceased brother, Ricky).
