Mr. Avants died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at the age of 61. He was born June 1, 1938, in Dos Rios and lived most of his life in Ukiah.
Mr. Avants served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. He enjoyed many sports, coached youth and women's softball and was a member of the Ukiah Lions Club for many years. He volunteered many hours caring for 62 miniature horses in Redwood Valley. He will be remembered for his love of animals and his willingness to help others in need.
He is survived by his children, Cathy Avants, Terry Avants both of Ukiah, and Patty Avants of North Carolina; brothers Bill Avants df San Bruno, Don Avants of Petaluma, Alan Flosi of Tacoma, Wash.;; and Jay Flosi of Hayward; sisters Sharon Hoag and Joyce Green both of Ukiah; grandchildren Stephanie and Brandon McGarr of Ukiah; Sarah and Gary Sellers of Redwood Valley, Andrew Avants of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
