WATERLOO– Vivian Lee Avant, 89, of 200 Douglas Drive, died Friday (March 31, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital.
Vivian was born February 3, 1928 in Atascosa, Texas, the daughter of George L. and Virginia L. Thigpen Avant.
She was a 1945 graduate from Lytle High School in Lytle, Texas. Vivian attended Mary Hardin in Belton, Texas and later graduated from Atlanta Art Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, earning a BFA degree.
As an artist, she had a lifelong passion for painting, and once taught children part-time at the YMCA in San Antonio, Texas. Her paintings were exhibited in various art museums and shows, and she produced many portraits, landscapes, and other subject matter. She also worked for The Fox Company in San Antonio, Texas, colorizing photographs. Vivian also had a great love for animals. Later in life, she moved to Seneca County to be nearer to her sister.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Hubert Schoonmaker; sisters-in-law, Vada Carter Avant and Lorene Dietrich Avant; nieces Sandy Schoonmaker (Fred Smith) Picchi, Carol Avant Rudes, Ginny (Jeff) Avant Rauth, and Joanne (David Denney) Avant; nephews David (Lamay Gilroy) Schoonmaker, Gary Avant, Wayne (Donna) Avant, and Charles Avant; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Vivian was predeceased by her brothers George Stanley Avant, Fred Lamar Avant, and Albert "Jack" Avant; and her sister, Patricia Avant Schoonmaker.
