Esther was born in Cusco, Peru in 1890 to parents Maximilano Recharte (Uriona) and Maria Magdalena Massit (Flores ).
She worked as a midwife - nurse in Cusco, Peru area. In 1916 she met and married American, Ira Marshall Avant (Avent) from San Antonio Texas who was working in Bolivia on the construction of the road and mining for gold in the region. They married and resided in Cusco, Peru and at their Hacienda "Sauqui", on the Paucartambo River. They had five sons, Wendall, Teddy-Humphrey, Franklin, William and John (who died at age 5).
She was a Protestant by birth and active with the Evangelical British mission - the Urco Farm near Calca, Peru. She spoke three languages, Spanish, English and Quecheua. Her husband, Ira Avant was a friend of Thomas Paine, who ran the British Missionary Urco Farm.
When her children were school age, they attended the Missionary boarding school there. Ira Avant is buried at the cemetery of the Urco Farm at Calca, next to his friend Thomas Paine.
After the death of her husband, in 1938, she moved from Cusco to live with her brother's family, Julio Recharte (Massit) in Miraflores, Lima.
She tragically lost her life in a bus accident in Lima in 1944. She is remembered by her sons families who today live in the United States, Canada, and Peru. She was remembered as a strict, yet modern parent who wanted the best for her children.
