Ruth Brown, 95, of Dimmitt died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011.

Mrs. Brown was born July 16, 1916, in Brownwood to Alonzo Lester Aven and Mabel Aven. Her family moved to Hart in 1926, where she attended and graduated from Hart High School in 1933.

Mrs. Brown married Bernard Brown on Nov. 12, 1933, and together they acquired and worked a 360-acre farm. She gave birth to a daughter, Sunnye, in July 1934, and a son, DeWayne, in April 1936. She was a loving wife and mother.

In 1947, Ruth and Bernard traded their farm for a new meat processing and locker plant in Dimmitt. In 1959, they sold the locker plant and bought a cattle ranch in Nathrop, Colo. After 12 years on the ranch in 1971, they sold out, retaining enough acreage to build a new home and open a new campground, which they operated for 10 years. After 29 years in Colorado and because Bernard's health began to deteriorate, Ruth and Bernard moved back to Dimmitt in 1988. Ruth continued to reside in Dimmitt until her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Brown, in 1989; a daughter, Sunnye Blackwell, in 2008; a son, DeWayne Brown, in 2011; a grandson, Blair Brown, in 2010; two brothers, Leroy Aven and Buster Aven; and a sister, Geneva Brooks.
