Misc. Notes
John Grunter Sloan was born March 20, 1880, in Hopkins County, Texas. He was the ninth child born to John B. Sloan and Serenia Richardson Sloan.

John married Beatrice Aven in 1901. He was a farmer and a Woodman of the World member.

After an illness of several weeks from typhoid fever, Gunter Sloan died at 8:00 Sunday night August 24, 1913, at his home six miles northeast of Cumby. He had a Woodmen of the World funeral. His caisson was pulled by a beautiful team of white horses and was one of the most elegant and impressive of its day.

While not a member of any church Mr. Sloan was religious and had the confidence of the people in the community in which he lived.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Aven Sloan and two daughters, Bernice and Katie Sloan.
