He is survived by three daughters Cheryl Avants and husband Bill Nowlin, Shelley Avants, Amber Pruitt, one sister Virgie Smith, and one granddaughter Brianna Pruitt.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie (Voiles) Avants, his parents, two brothers, Ross Avants, Edward Avants, two sisters Francis Gurley, and Verda Gurley.
