Mark Perrin Lowery was a Southern Baptist preacher otherwise known as the "Preacher General". He is known for being a Confederate brigadier general during the Civil War, for his works in the Mississippi Southern Baptist Convention, and for founding the Blue Mountain College.

Note: The general’s daughter, Modena, married William Edwin Berry, who was Julius G. Berry’s great uncle and also partner with Gen. Lowery in founding the college.
