Misc. Notes
Miss Julia Burns, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Nov.22, 2010.

She was born at home in Walthall County, Dec. 5, 1913, to Annie and Clifton Burns.

Julia attended Draughon's Business College in Jackson. She joined St. Paul Insurance Company in '46 and retired after 33 years. She loved to talk about her time there and all the friends she made. Always a scholar, she was an avid researcher in her family's genealogy. At 96, she could instantly recall detailed connections going back several generations. European history was another of her passions.

Her sense of humor has always been a strong and endearing characteristic. Until her last month of life, she loved telling stories of tricks the children played on each other. Julia could find something in almost every situation that made a good story and brought a laugh. She said there had been difficult parts in her life but that she tried to put those behind her.

In 2007 she moved from Jackson to Trace Pointe Assisted Living in Clinton. Giving up her independence was difficult. As with other changes in her life, she accepted it with grace and made friends.

She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and a dedicated Christian. She stated that the best part about her later stage in life was that she was getting closer and closer to the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, of Ruth; brothers Curtis and Lowery Burns, of Ruth, and the Rev. Edwin Burns, of Brookhaven; also her sister Gladys Coleman, of Summit.

Julia is survived by her sisters, Ann Bayly, of Jackson and Grace Meacham, of Suffolk, Va.; nieces Bonnie Dunn (Bob), Terry Killingsworth (Fred), Alice Mason, Jane Bonner (Mike); nephews, Luther (Nora), Don (Nancy), and Dwayne (Judy) Burns, Robert (Phillis) Bayly, Michael (Carol) and Jackie Coleman, David and Curtis (Charlotte) Meacham.
