April 19, 1947 - April 27, 2017

Jesus called Richard (Rick) Jay Neelley home on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 70.

Rick Neelley was born in Plainview, TX on April 19, 1947 to Bert and Melba Neelley. His family moved to Lubbock, TX in 1959 and he attended Lubbock High School. While in high school, Rick met the love of his life, Sharon Dempster, and they married September 3, 1966. In 1975, Rick and Sharon moved to Amarillo, TX with their oldest, Scott. In 1977 they had their second son, Todd. Rick worked for Southwestern Public Services (SPS) for 23 years doing computer programming.

Rick and Sharon moved to Loveland Colorado in 1997 when SPS outsourced its IT department to IBM. They remained in Colorado near their oldest son’s family, Scott and Robin and their two sons, Zach and Hunter until 2006. In 2006, they moved back to Amarillo at Timbercreek Canyon where Rick would work until his retirement from IBM. Rick’s youngest son, Todd, lives in Mansfield, TX with his wife, Tiffany, and their two children, Talyn and Tatum.

Rick gave his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 8. He wants to be remembered as being a good man who loved God first, his family and friends.
Rick was the ultimate outdoorsman and loved to fly fish and hunt. Some of his greatest memories were on his hunting trips with his sons. Three times he and Sharon went to Alaska & Canada on month-long adventures. They fished all the way up and all the way back on their last trip. The families also gathered every year at Rainbow Lake in Colorado where they enjoyed fishing and hiking. Scott’s two boys were baptized in that lake and Todd’s two children will be baptized this summer at the same lake. Rick was so proud of his family and grandchildren.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sharon; his two sons, Scott and Todd; his two daughter in-laws, Robin and Tiffany; his three grandchildren, Zachary, Talyn and Tatum and his two brothers, Robert and Dave and their wives Connie and Shasta; and many nephews and nieces.

Rick is preceded in death by his grandson, Hunter, who passed away from cancer at the age of 14. Hunter battled cancer for nearly 5 years and was Rick’s inspiration as he battled his own. Neither one ever complained, even with being in constant pain. They only cared about everyone else. Rick’s love and compassion for others is what made him so great and an inspiration to so many people.
