Alfred Thompson Adams, Jr., at age 85 died peacefully on May 21st of 2013.

Born August 22, 1927 in Nashville, TN to Alfred Thompson and Karin Hughes Adams. Graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1944. Served in the U.S. Navy 1945-1946. Graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 1949 and Vanderbilt School of Law in 1952. He was elected to the Tennessee General Assembly in 1953.

Married Peggy Joyce Keylon of Manchester in 1954, she passed away in 1999. Alf practiced law in Nashville from 1952 until he retired in 2002. He moved to Beersheba Springs, TN to live in the log home he built for his family. He did residential construction, surveying, farming, beekeeping and caretaking of the Adams family homes on the mountain. He married Patricia Riley Fleming of Greensboro, NC in 2003.

Alf was a deacon and elder of the Downtown Presbyterian Church, and managed the church property for 20 years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a charter member of the Nashville City Club, Director and General Council of the Nashville Union Rescue Mission. In Beersheba, he was a member and song leader at the Grace united Methodist Church, and a member of the Grundy County Republican Executive Committee and the Election Commission. His love for Grundy County lasted his whole life. He was devoted to the conservation of the natural surroundings, as well as his friends there. He turned a dream into reality by establishing homes there that generations to come will enjoy.

He is survived by his sisters, Karin Adams Stewart, Rosalie Adams Crispin, Mary Adams Wiley, Sue Howell Adams (Peter) and his brothers, Benjamin Strickler Adams and John Phillips Adams. He is also survived by his 5 children, Jencie Adams Tipton (Waymon), Karin Adams Barro (Greg), Peggy Adams Luton (Ken), Sue Howell Keyes, Alfred Adams III (Jennifer) and 20 grandchildren.
