Colonel Wallace was commissioned Captain in the 3rd Virginia Regiment on 23 Feb 1776 and served with the 11th, 15th and 25th Virginia Regiments until the reorganization of the Army on Jan 1, 1781, at which time he was transfered as Lt. Col. to the 2nd Virginia Regiment.

He was with Washington at Valley Forge,was captured 12th of May in 1780 by the British in the fall of Charleston,was paroled by Lord Cornwallis at the request of Governor Thomas Nelson.

Owned a Livery stable in 1788-90 and raised grayhounds

While returning from Scotland after the war, he contracted typhus fever and died shortly after arriving back in the United States. H was buried with Masonic honors.

As there will be a change in the naval office department in this State, <under> the new goverment I wish to inform your Excellency, I stand as a Candidate for the port of Rappahannock, hoping if no person more deserving offers to meet with your Excellencies approbation. I have the honor to be Your Excellence’s most obedient And Very Humble Servant
