William Dabney Waller Jr. died peacefully at his home at Vicar's Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on October 31, 2008. Known as Dabney, he was born on September 8, 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri.

He attended St. Louis Country Day School and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. Before WWII he worked for Anheuser Busch in St. Louis and F.M. Crump & Company in Memphis, TENNESSEE.

Commissioned in the Navy in 1942, Waller served in the South Pacific and was later stationed at NAS Jacksonville as a Lt. Commander.

In 1945 Waller and Jane Robbins, a childhood friend from St. Louis were married. After his discharge in 1946, they continued living in Jacksonville where he worked as a Business Manager for Cox Construction Co. He was a longtime parishioner and member of St. John's Cathedral Finance Committee.

Active in the community, he received from the Jacksonville Exchange club The Book of Golden Deeds Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.

Following his wife's death in 1970, Waller moved to Jacksonville Beach. He became an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra, served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and received the Christ Church Distinguished Service Cross. He is survived by his niece Dabney Adams Hart and nephews Howell E. Adams Jr. (Madeline) and Thomas E. Adams (Anita) of Atlanta, GA; cousins Charles M. Crump and Blanche Crump, of Memphis, TN and Mary Cunningham Howlett of Indialantic, FL; seven great nieces and nephews and 13 great, great nieces and nephews.

Dabney recently established a fund for two lite care communities, Vicar's Landing and Glenmoor to aid members and employees in need of financial assistance.
