Rev. Emmett Wayne Coleman, 88, went home to be with Jesus and his wife, Margaret on March 31, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

Wayne was born on February 15, 1924 in Louisville, MS to Emmett Clifton Coleman and Minnie Lee Reynolds Coleman.

He graduated from Louisville High School. A member of "The Greatest Generation", Wayne enlisted in the service in March of 1943 and was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Corps in the 4197th Bombing Unit. A Technical Sergeant, he served as radio operator and serial gunner in a B-25 bombardment group operating from Corsica in the Meditteranean theatre and completed 70 missions over enemy occupied territory. He was awarded the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters for meritorious achievement.

Following discharge in September of 1945, he entered Mississippi College and earned a BA degree in English. While at MC he was elected "Most Handsome" and "Friendliest".

Answering the call to the ministry, Wayne entered Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Due to his father's terminal illness, he returned home to Louisville before completing his degree.

While serving as a youth pastor in Belzoni, MS, he met the love of his life, Margaret Hood. They were married on May 16, 1953. Margaret served faithfully alongside Wayne through all of his pastorates.

His first pastorate was First Baptist Church in Natchez, MS. Two daughters were born to Wayne and Margaret there. The congregation graciously offered to send Wayne back to seminary to complete his degree. In later years, Wayne returned to SBTS to upgrade his degree to the Master of Divinity.

After graduation from Seminary, the Colemans moved to Ruleville, MS where he served as pastor of First Baptist Church for four years. In 1962, he was called to the First Baptist Church in Oxford, MS. Wayne worked for ten years for Disability Determination Services and later served on staff at First Baptist, Jackson in the hospital visitation ministry.
