Misc. Notes
Annie Robertson was the FIRST wife of Nathaniel "Nat" Carroll, but she was NOT the mother of his children, all of whom were probably born in Alabama between 1825 and 1837. Nathaniel's son James Bowles Carroll (my great-great grandfather) was born in Alabama on Dec. 25, 1825. Nathaniel's son John Jenkins Carroll was born in Alabama in 1837. History places Nathaniel in Nashville between 1812 and 1820, where he and his brother William were sent by their father, Thomas Carroll of Pennsylvania, to open a nail store. Nathaniel then disappears and shows up in Alabama in 1825, married to Henrietta Webb. SHE, and not Annie M. Robertson, who died in 1874, was the mother of Nathaniel's children. Annie, daughter of a prominent Nashville politician, remained in Nashville. She and her parents are all buried in the Old City Cemetery in Nashville, where they have prominent markers. Whether or not she and Nathaniel were divorced (unlikely in the 1820s) remains a mystery, as does Henrietta Webb and the circumstances of her becoming the second Mrs. Nathaniel Carroll.
