Edward SAUNDERS I, born in England in 1595, came to Virginia in the ship SAFETY in August 1635, a time of great influx of persons from the British Isles. Until 1634, all ships were required to land at Poynt Comfort which is a port across the James River from present day Norfolk Virginia.
