Retha was born May 2, 1918, in Monroe County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star Martha Chapter 53.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Kenneth W. Hood and wife, Dr. Anna F. Hood, of Starkville; a daughter, Sandra H. Avent and husband, Robert W., of Belden; a brother, L.E. Wright of Amory; a sister, Mavis Rose and husband, Ruben, of Wenatchee, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Presley of Georgia; five grandchildren, Dawn Mercer of Texas, Susan Michelle Gardiner and husband, Craig, of Georgia, John D. Hood and wife, Kaye, of Georgia, Michael Shawn Carstens of Belden, Kenneth Austin Hood of Starkville; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Hood; a son, Jimmy Dale Hood; a granddaughter, Kimberly Chase Carstens; and her parents, Oscar V. Wright and Pamela Palentine Maxey.
