Hugh Scott was a Scotch-Irish immigrant who arrived from Ulster (in the north of Ireland) at Port New Castle, Delaware around 1670, and found his way to New Munster, Pennsylvania.
Hugh Scott descended from the Scott family who fled from Scotland to Ireland to escape the persecution of the Presbyterians in the 1600's. Many of the Scottish Presbyterians fled to Ireland thus deriving the term "Scotch-Irish".
