Misc. Notes

Bee Hisaw Shot

“Dutch” Keaton, the “bad man” of Gritts, has probably killed his man.

Yesterday afternoon near the home of William Neff, he shot Bee Hisaw and as a result Mr. Hisaw is lying at the point of death.

So far as we are able to learn, the trouble arose over the nonpayment of a dollar which Keaton claimed Hisaw owed him.

Keaton had been drinking during the afternoon and met Mr. Hisaw and Mr. Neff in a wagon near the latter’s home and is said with a shotgun knocked Hisaw out of: the wagon. In the scuffle that followed Hisaw got Keaton down and upon a promise that he would let him alone, Hisaw got up and started for Neff’s house, when it is alleged Keaton drew a pistol and fired. The hall striking Hisaw about the middle of the back and coming out about an inch to the right of the left nipple. Deputy Sheriff Looper received news of the affair about 11:00 o’clock last night and immediately organized a posse and went out to the neighborhood but up to this morning has failed to capture Keaton.”

Sometimes known as 'B' he moved to California and was living with his daughter, Addie, when he died at the age of 76.
