Jean Marie Matherly Phillips, of Roanoke, departed this earth to be with her heavenly father Sunday, December 18, 2011.
Jean Marie was a devout Christian and a great cook. She had retired from National Business College and the Jefferson Inn and went on to work for Target. She was dedicated to her children, friends and family. Jean never met a stranger and opened her home and heart to everyone who needed her.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Altice and husband, Mike; sons, Randy Phillips and wife, Pam, and Ronald Phillips; grandson, Dalton Altice; granddaughters, Melissa Adkins, Heather Phillips and Hope Phillips; as well as great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; sister, Sharon Knight; former daughter- in-law, Darlene Phillips; former sister-in-law, Jeanette Fritz, of Florida; and special friends, April Stiff, Francis and Gladys.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Matherly; brothers, Edward Matherly and James Matherly Jr.; sister, Arleta Tilley; baby sister, Janet Lorraine Matherly; and son, Darrell Phillips.
NOTE: Not able to reconcile that Jean’s ‘mother’ was nine years old when Jean was born. In her obituary, her mother was not mentioned as either predeceased not as surviving.
