Edward Sr. was not in the Revolutionary War, but he did haul freight and supplies for them. He was known as a wagoner and was a master carpenter. He ran freight from Mecklenburg County, NC, to the coast of NC and through SC to Augusta and Savannah.

His first wife died about 1790 and he remarried about 1795/96 to Sarah William Osteen. She was the widow of Thomas Osteen, Jr., of Savannah, Georgia. In about 1810, Edward and his son Moses and his family started for Texas. Edward's health got bad and he remained in Buncombe County, [NC] area where he died in 1814.

Edward and Moses built several homes in the area [NC & SC] some were still standing until about 1965. They were much above the average home in this area -- 8 & 10 rooms, lots of old scroll work outside and inside -- two story with rather ornate stairways.
