James W.T. (William Trotline) Emmett served in the Civil War (confederate) with his brother Leander Emmett. Both were privates and joined on May 12th, 1862 as part of Company D, 55th Regiment, GA Volunteer Infantry, Hall County, GA, Hall County Volunteers. The were both captured during mass surrender at Cumberland Gap, TN on September 9, 1863. They were POWs at Camp Douglas, IL (near Chicago) and released on June 13, 1865. Bible records show that JWT and Emma were married on 11/21/1865. So.., age 18, he joined the army, he was released at age 21 and married that same year.
