The earliest Granville County Levister (also spelled Leavister) found is George who acquires property in 1764. George "Leavenston" is listed as one of the members of the 1771 Granville County Militia. He was in Capt. Sol. Alston's Company. See Walter Clark's "The State Records," volume 22, page 161.
His will probated around 1787 names his wife Rebecca and sons James, Davis (who married Jean/Jane Hendlely October 1799), John (who married Patsy Hendly December 1799) and daughters Susanna, Temperance, Jemima, Betsey (who married Bird Driver in 1781) and Ann/Nancy who married Thomas Pledger in 1785. An original copy of his will dated 1786 and probated February 1787 is in the North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh.
