Richard Stockton immigrated to Massachuesetts as early as 1635, settling in Charleston, MA.
He is a witness to a deed in 1639 at Charleston. The next reference to him is among the original patentees named in the charter of the town of Flushing, Long Island, NY, before 8 Nov 1656, when his name appears on a petition requesting the release of william Wickenden.
He was Commissioned Lieutentant of the Horse in Flushing 22 Apr 1665, with a second commission as Lieutentant of the Foot on 9 Apr 1669, withdrawn by the Governor when informed of the earlier assignment to the Horse. Between 1670-1680 he convereted to the tenets of the Society of Friends.
His estate in Flushing consisted of 132 acres and a a meadow. Sold these holdings with the sale completed in Mar 1694. On 10 May 1692 he purchased a 2,000 acres plantation in Springfield Twp, Burlington Co, NJ running 2 miles long and 1 mile wide. He named the plantation Oneokicken, but called it by it's Indian name, "An-na-nicken".
He helped establish the Meeting House at Stony Brook (now Princeton) by donating land to the meeting. His Will was written 22 Jan 1706 and proved 10 Oct 1707 in Burlington Co, NJ. He was survuved by his wife Abigail and left most of his land to sons Richard, Job and John.
