Came on the "Speedwell" with his wife and three sons, sailing from Weymouth, England shortly after 22 apr 1637.

Settled in Taunton, Massachusetts, where he was listed as early proprietor in 1638, taking the Oath of Fidelity in 1643. Removed to Portsmouth, Rhode Island, on the Island of Aquidnesk, later that year.

On 28 Nov 1643 he was received as an inhabitant and granted land.

On 4 Sep 1648, the town council of Portsmouth gave him thirty acres "at the head of his house lot, to run towards Mr. Burtun's ferry". They also gave his son Thomas Jr. thirty acres.

On 25 Oct 1649 he purchased land from William Brenton on the eastern shore of the Island, about six miles north of Newport in the vicinity of the present Glen Road.

On 19 Nov 1657 the town council granted him eight acres, to replace eight acres taken from him for the Common Fence Point, and an additional two acres on 10 Dec 1657.

On 3 Mar 1656 one of three chosen to sit at the General Court of Trials. Chosen a Juryman for the General Court of Trials 13 Mar 1569.

He was admitted as a freeman in Portsmouth in 1655.
