About 1670 he and his family moved to Somerset Co. MD. where he acquired a large plantation named "Greenfield" on the north side of the Pocomoke River near its headwaters. His other holdings included "Middle" and "Exchange" in the same location. He was described as "a gentleman of substance and social position." Some time after 1674 he was "convinced" and became a Quaker. His will stated that he desired burial in "Quaker Burying ground." the Powells of VA. by Rev. Silas Lucas.
