Robert Lee Riney, 91, of Memphis, MO passed away May 20, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

He was born December 11, 1912, at Stiles, IA, the oldest of eight children of Roscoe Conklin and Edith “Ethel” (Miller) Riney.

He attended grade school at Crow Country School in Scotland County, MO.

On June 2, 1940, he married Mildred Lee Mustoe in the Methodist Parsonage at Memphis, MO. They are the parents of four children, Larry Gene, Samuel Lee, Sharon Kay, and Mary Jo.

Robert farmed most of his life south of Hitt until they retired and moved to town December 10, 1980. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church until it burned and the congregation moved their memberships to Memphis and joined the Memphis Presbyterian Church.

He loved to play cards, shoot pool and keep up his yard. He almost caught the leaves before they reached the ground.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Maxie Riney and Paul Eugene Riney.

Robert is survived by his wife Mildred Riney; his children, Larry Riney and his wife, Norma of Memphis, MO, Sam Riney and his wife, Ellen of Memphis, TN, Sharon and her husband, Jim Bozek of Danville, CA, and Mary Jo and her husband, Ivan Hanson of Shawnee Mission, KS; grandchildren, Carol Lynn Riney of Columbia, MO, Vicki Gail and husband, Mike Ahland of Memphis, MO, Darin Todd Riney and his wife, Grethlyn of Richmond, IN, Lance Joseph Hanson of Shawnee Mission, KS, Jane Elizabeth “Betsy” and husband, Parke Pepper of Murphreesboro, TN, Robert Stanley Cushing and Kris of San Ramon, CA, Emily Rebecca Maher of Memphis, TN, Jeffrey George Cushing of San Ramon, CA, Samuel James “Jamie” Riney of Memphis, TN; great-grandchildren, Genika Leigh Markey, Paige Monroe Riney, and Cassidy Noel Riney of Richmond, IN, Reagan Elizabeth Pepper, Samuel “Yates” Pepper, Joseph “Ashley” Pepper of Murphreesboro, TN, Padrig “Caulin” Maher of Memphis, TN, Joseph Robert “Joey” Cushing of San Ramon, CA; also two step-great-granddaughters and two step-great-great-children; one brother, Raymond Riney of Memphis, MO; four sisters, Ina Maude Carstens of Montgomery, AL, Anna Mae Kaiser of Keokuk, IA, Marietta VandenBos of Lakewood, CO, Crystal Irene Bennett and her husband, Jim of Arvada, CO; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 24, 2004, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles McCarken and Pam Glasgow officiating. Organist was Connie Courtney and Tom Cotton was vocalist. Pallbearers were Darin Riney, Lance Hanson, Rob Cushing, Jeff Cushing, Mike Ahland, Randy Riney, and Doug Kaiser. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Lay, Waldo McWilliam, Frank Reed, Mitch Jayne, and Bill Coffrin. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Scotland County, MO.
