Misc. Notes
David Brumley enlisted as a Private in Company E, 16th Alabama Infantry. Mustered in near Knoxville, Tennessee, under General Zollicoffer. He was slightly wounded in right arm at Shiloh. Was in the battle of Perryville, Kentucky, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Chickamauga. Was furloughed near Fayette, Georgia, after the Battle of Chickamauga.
His two brothers, Barton and Riley, served in the Union army with the 1st Alabama Calvary.
David Brumley married Elizabeth Scott who had four brothers and three brothers-in-law who all fought for the Union while David joined the Confederate Army. David's brothers were also Union soldiers. When David came home on a furlough from the war, Elizabeth was very ill. She knew she was dying and asked David to leave their two little daughters with her parents to raise after she died. He agreed and did as she asked. After the war, he left for Tennessee taking only the family Bible with him saying good-by to his two little daughters. Elizabeth, his wife, was placed in an unmarked grave because there was no money for headstones.

1. General Disability due to old age.
2. App. says was b. 18 March 1827 (should be 1837), Cobb County, Georgia.
3. Was mustered in near Knoxville, TN, under General Zollincoffer. "I enlisted in Marion County, AL, officers Col. Woods, Capt. Weatherford, First Lt. Pink Guy, 2nd Lt. John Cox, 3rd Lt. Pole Roberts".
4. "I was engaged in battles at Shiloh, Perryville, KY, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Chicamauga". Slightly wounded at Shiloh (in right arm) and was incapacitated by wound--was not discharged.
5. Dr. Mahan attended him.
6. Furloughed near Fayette, GA, sometime after battle of Chickamauga.
7. Never in prison.
8. Did not take oath of allegiance. Col. Thrasher had him put in guard house and he refused to take oath.
9 . Said he was a widower with three sons, ages 38, 36, and 24, and a married daughter, age 22.
10. Occupation, farmer.
11. Wife died 20 years previously, (second wife).
12. Lived in Tennessee about 40 years.
13. Thomas J. Walsh was his attorney.
14. Applied 6 May 1911. (age at that time about 74 years.)
15. Witnessed by Sidney Thompson, Physician.
