John lived in the Swift community and owned a farm on the waters of Indian Creek. The Goshen Cemetery is located on the land that once belonged to the Lindsey family. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1836, there was a church, Joshua Meeting House, established at this site. No evidence of the church remains.

John W. Lindsey, his brother and others established a mill on Indian Creek in the 1840's that was operated by Charles H. Almond, a miller, as shown bythe 1850 census. In the mid 1850's the mill was sold to J. R. Laden and remained in operation until about the 1890's.
