Misc. Notes
John Gann taught school for some years and became the owner of a large plantation and many slaves. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Cobb County, moving into the district in 1834, two years after it had been laid out into townships.

He soon became active in public affairs, his first office being that of Representative to the Georgia Assembly. He served two terms in the Lower House and in 1841 was elected State Senator, leaving the impression of his individuality upon the laws of the Common Wealth. For many years he was a member of the Georgia Militia, holding the rank of Major.

John was married at least 3 times, Sarah Coffee Stephens, Mary Ann Allen and Nancy O. Reed..

Note: The home of State Senator John Gann, who represented Cobb County in 1842, was just west of the Concord Covered Bridge over Nickajack Creek, and south of the battlefield where the Battle of Ruff's Mill took place on July 4, 1864. The home was spared because a Masonic apron was found in the attic.
