Hansel Quitman Sanders, 89, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Desoto County Healthcare Center, Desoto, MS. Born on December 15, 1925, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late George H. and Mary Maxey Sanders.
Growing up, Hansel went to school in Monroe County. He entered into the Navy in 1945 and he proudly served our country. He fought in World War II and received Military Honors.
He was a hard working man whose family was the most important to him. He married the love of his life, Geneva Sanders on August 17, 1946. He was a member of the Arkabutla United Methodist Church, Arkabutla, MS. He worked many years for Northwest Airlines in Memphis as a mechanic. He was determined about finishing his education and he went back to school to obtain his GED in 1968. In his free time, Hansel liked to invent things and eat great food. He was great with his hands and talented craftsman who loved wood working. Hansel was also a member of the Arkabutla Masonic Lodge #287 and the Shriners Club. Country and Western music were his favorite types of music, especially Patsy Cline and Floyd Cramer.
Survivors include his sons, Herbert Sanders (Jodi), Coldwater, MS, Harold Sanders (Eve), Northlake, IL; daughter, Gloria H. Rivera (Michael), Milton, FL; grandchildren, Greg Grimes (Jenny), Starkville, MS, Christina Earle (Gary), Salem, OR, Stephanie Ross, Aldie, VA, Gary Smith, Katy, TX, Phillip Smith (Heather), Independence, MS, Jennifer Guy (Trey), Pope, MS, Emily Sosebee (Michael), Longtown, MS ; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Sanders; grandson, Brian Sanders; 10 brothers and sisters.
