Girtrue Cowley Maxey, 96, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at The Meadows in Fulton.
Born Sept. 3, 1913, in Saltillo, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Jennie Maude Bradley Cowley and the late Della Towery Cowley.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Smithville Baptist Church, where she was involved in the senior citizens' group. She married Hermon W. Maxey in 1929; he died in 1980. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, sewing, quilting and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one son, Sidney M. Maxey (Annie) of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Wilma Kneisly of Saltillo; one sister, Mary Wright (Denver) of Smithville; five grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 14 stepgreat-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Della Towery Cowley; two sons, Gillie and Jimmie Maxey; three sisters, Odean Walden, Joyce Angle and Eva Lou Vail; two brothers, Thomas and Stacy Cowley; and a stepgrandchild, Ricky Rogers
