He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by two sons, Bobby Maxey and Ricky Maxey, both of New Albany; one daughter, Debbie Hawksley (Chris) of Brooks, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Angie Dillard (Brandy), Bobby De Maxey, Gina Maxey, Jessica Wharton, Randi Hawksley, Josh Hawksley, Roy Maxey and Eva Owen (Brett) and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Lynteen Pannell Maxey and by his second wife, Beverly Wickert Maxey; one brother, James Maxey and one sister, Virginia Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Campbell, Billy Campbell, Scott Maxey, Brandy Dillard, Larry Carpenter, Derrick Howell and Gary Huddleston.

Era Elizabeth Maxey, 91, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Amory after an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Tremont to the late Thomas Jefferson and Georgia Ann Knight Wright.
She had lived in the Smithville area for many years. She married Arbie Maxey on Dec. 7, 1945; he predeceased her in 1994.
She was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church. She was employed by Monroe Trousers in Smithville before her retirement. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and flower gardening. She was a precious jewel.
Survivors include her daughter, Joy Maxey of Smithville; and one sister, Ann Wright Dye of Vardaman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Lynn Maxey; her brothers, Austin Wright, Hob Wright, Raymond Wright and Comer Wright; and her sisters, Esta Robinson, Jessica Hester, Eycie Mabus, Gladys Murphree, Ruby Bowen and Nell Holley.
Pallbearers will be Joe Wright, Sidney Maxey, Jimmie Ritter and Larry Kuykendall.
