Judy Anne Johnston Maxey, 68, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at Sunshine Nursing Center in Pontotoc after an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 6, 1943, in Lee County to Clarence Columbus "Mose" Johnston and Daisy Henson Johnston. She lived most of her growing up life in Okolona, graduated from the public schools there and received her B.A. in music from Mississippi State College for Women, where she was an active member of the Lockhart Social Club.

She was a master pianist and choral instructor in the Lee, Union and Pontotoc School Systems as well as teaching private piano and voice lessons. A resident of Pontotoc for 36 years, she was a former choir director at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc as well as youth choir director and also held membership in the First Presbyterian Church of Pontotoc. Her childhood church home was Okolona Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the DAR in Pontotoc and the Pontotoc Music Study Club. She was an avid and devoted music enthusiast, excelling in instrumental and classical piano as well as a master vocalist. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, collecting angels, all things Elvis and revered the time she spent with her boys and family.

Survivors include her three sons, twins Tracy C. Maxey of Olive Branch and Lt. Col. Stacy L. Maxey and his wife, Lisa, of the U.S. Air Force stationed at Jacksonville Air Force Base, Ark., and Patrick Maxey and his wife, Angel, of Pontotoc; the father of her sons, Terry Maxey of Olive Branch; two grandchildren, Nicole and Ashton; her sister, Martha Dale Stock of Cary, N.C.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Dorothy Dean Hayes and Imogene Horn.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Stock III, Robert Ligon, Jay Hayes, Dalton Christian, Jack Gregory, Jason Carter, Chuck Mols and Joey Rodgers.
