Angus served in the Civil War as a private in CSA-AL 24th Infantry Company F with his brothers. And later in the Union Company B, First Florida Calvary: enlisted 25 January 1864 at Barrancas, Florida, as a refugee from a "rebel state" and was mustered out 17 November 1865 at Tallahassee, Florida, with his brothers Alexander (appointed Sgt 1 Apr 1864), Duncan and William. Angus was described as 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair & light skin.

He was a farmer. Angus and Sara were in Walton County, Florida, for the 1870 U.S. Census, on page 811. In the 1871 Angus moved to Neshoba County, Mississippi, 3 or 4 years before moving to Jones County, Mississippi. There he lived about 6 years before moving to Jasper County, Mississippi. His pension papers from the National Archives also describe him as 5' 7" 108 lbs., blue eyes, dark hair and light complexion. He had 2 scars, one mid-thigh from a shot, front to rear and one between shoulders (Carbuncle), and disabilities as rheumatic and spinal affection.

20 Jan 1920 Angus was in Beat 5, Jasper County, Mississippi, for the U.S. Census, Lou and granddaughters Willie & Edna; E.D. 21, sheet 13, line 24, #s 204 &206. He lived 2 doors away from Josh and Emma McClellan.

His Mississippi Death Certificate #6431 list his and his father's birth place as North Carolina; Information supplied by Josh McClellan. Angus and Sarah are buried in Philadelphia Methodist Church Cemetery, Jasper County, Mississippi. Angus has a U.S.A. tombstone.
