Laverne Brasfield Hill, 90, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory after an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Monroe County, she was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Smithville to Joseph Arthur and Ora B. Ausbon Brasfield. She married Robert Hamilton Hill in 1942; he died in Dec. of 2003.
She was a charter member of the North Boulevard Christian Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Dwight Hill (Sweetie) of Amory and Joseph Richard "Dicky" Hill (Judy) of Collierville; one daughter, Susan Hill Lentz (David) of Collierville; three grandchildren, Karen Barrett (Wes), John Hill (Tracy), and Robb Lentz (Ashley); and nine great-grandchildren, John Wesley, Rachel, Luke, Adam, and Lauren Barrett, Daniel and Davan Lentz, and Jacob and Christian Hill.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Melvin, and Casper Brasfield; four sisters, Fleta Shumpert, Flonnie Gilmore, Mellie Stevens, and Jewel Nash; her parents; and her husband.
Pallbearers will be John Hill, Wesley Barrett, Wayne Howell, James Allen Hill, John Wesley Barrett, Jackie Palmer, and Luke Barrett.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Carlson and J.T. Thornton.
