Brenda Joy Maxey Adair, 61, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness.
Born on June 23, 1952, in Amory to Thomas Maxey and Claudine Goodwin Maxey, she graduated from Hatley High School in 1970 and from Mississippi State University with a degree in mathematics and secondary education.
She was a public school teacher for 19 years until her health failed. Her teaching career was diverse, first teaching at Greenwood Springs School, then at Shannon, with her teaching career culminating at Plantersville School. She taught elementary and secondary levels in math, received certifications in elementary education and special education. Before retirement, she taught first grade which became a passion for her. She was beloved by her students and took great interest in their educational as well as personal well-being.
A United Methodist, she was a member at her death at Nettleton United Methodist Church, where she was faithful in many activities including choir and leading the children's message each Sunday. She loved music, especially church music. She was a faithful volunteer and supporter of the Nettleton Food Pantry. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, vintage movies, baking and spending time with her family and friends. An avid conversationalist with a pleasing personality, she was loved and revered by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Adair of the Union community south of Plantersville; her only daughter and her husband, Angela Adair Fowler and Heath of Auburn, Ala.; her mother, Claudine Maxey of Amory.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Maxey; her brother, Tommy O'Neal Maxey and his wife, Carolyn; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances and Lawrence Adair; and her brother-in-law, Ken Adair.
