Mr. Basil E. “Buddy” Hood, 69, died on Monday, September 20, 2010, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on July 14, 1941, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Ivy Cecil & Davannah Vay Blake Hood.

Buddy honorably served his country in the US Army, the National Guard, and the US Air Force. He worked as a mechanic for the Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad and later worked for Eutaw Construction as a heavy equipment operator. A member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school Superintendent, he attended Smithville Baptist Church. A unique guy who never met a stranger, Buddy enjoyed people watching, coin collecting, woodworking, fishing, Country music, and watching the news. He owned Racking show horses and was a Jeff Gordon fan.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kay Hood, Smithville; daughter, Michele Rhea Hood, Birmingham; sister, Donna Faye Hood Smith, Peaceful Valley Community; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Mitchell Hood.

Pallbearers will be Rollin Turnage, Robert Woodham, David Reese, Mitch Hood, Raymond Sandlin and Bobby Blake.

Honorary pallbearers will be Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
