Evan Sr. (oldest son of James) and his brother John, moved to St. David Parish South Carolina after their father, James, died. The Prothro men were in St. David when the Revolution came to that part of South Carolina.
All the Prothro men took up arms in defence of their Country. Evan gave silver, generously, to the State Treasury. He served in Marion's Brigade under Lieautenant Terral and later served in the St. David Militia for eighteen months. Evan receved land grants of 3,280 acres,and cash, for his generosity and service.
