John Buford Wisdom was born in 1798 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He married Maria Waller Minor in Spotsylvania County on May 14, 1818. They were living in Spotsylvania County in 1820 with a son. Sometime before 1830, John moved to Caroline County, Virginia. Some sources indicate that he lived in Bowling Green, Caroline County. The census record shows that J ohn and Maria likely had three sons and four daughters by 1830. Sometime between 1830 and 1832, John and Maria moved to Kentucky. Their last two children were born in Kentucky in 1832 and 1834. Maria died in 1835 at the age of thirty-five.
John B. Wisdom was living in Todd, Todd County, Kentucky in 1840. Based on the numbers of each age group living in the household, all of his children were still at home in 1840 except his oldest son, Benjamin Henry Wisdom. There was also a 30-40 year old female in the household who was likely his second wife. There is a marriage record in Christian County, Kentucky of the marriage of John B. Wisdom to Francis Williams on Sep 22, 1837.
John moved across the state line to Clarksville, Tennessee in the early 1840s. The 1850 and 1860 census records show that John and his second wife, Francis, had two sons. Francis likely died about 1849.
John married Nancy Isbell on November 12, 1850 in Todd County, Kentucky. John and Nancy were living in Clarksville in 1860 and in 1870. John Buford Wisdom died in Clarksville, Tennessee on August 31, 1873 at the age of seventy-four.
