Misc. Notes
Information other than that taken from inscription on grave came from U.S. Census enumerations for 1870 (with spouse and children in Narramores, Hall, Georgia) and 1880 (with spouse and children in Banks County, Georgia.)
Several public trees on Ancestry state that Mrs. Gardiner's maiden name was "Furr." The only source given is an 1860 U.S. Census enumeration that does show an "Indiania Furr," born circa 1846, living with what appear to be her parents (S. G. and Olivia Furr) in Hall County, Georgia. However, the enumeration states that Indiania Furr was born in South Carolina, whereas Mrs. Gardiner's 1870 and 1880 enumerations state that she was born in Georgia. There was a young girl with the surname "Furr" living with the Gardiner family at the time of the 1870 U.S. Census: Mary Furr, an African-American girl born circa 1858.
Another contributor has suggested that Mrs. Gardiner was the daughter of
Steven G. Furr (1823-1909) and
Rachel A. Furr (1825-1903.) No sources were provided, and the only record I could find was the 1860 Census enumeration mentioned above, which is not at all convincing.
