May Wallace Scarbrough (92) died peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida, at the home of her daughter, Anne, on April 9, 2017.

She was born on November 11, 1924, to Robert and Belle Wallace in Memphis and lived at 681 West Drive, Hein Park. She attended Snowden Elementary, was a graduate of
Miss Hutchinson’s School (Valedictorian, ’43) and Southwestern at Memphis, ’47, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She worked in the office of Dr. Peyton Rhodes.

In 1950, May left the US for Germany as a stenographer and traveled extensively in Europe. She was stationed in Madrid, Spain where she met and married her husband in 1956 at the consulate in Tangier, Morocco.

As an Air Force wife, May continued to travel and lived in Montgomery, Alabama; Bermuda; and England. She had a diverse career as a legal secretary, medical secretary, kindergarten teacher and social worker. She lived in Montgomery, Alabama, over 43 years where she was member and volunteer for Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Red Cross, and the St. Andrew’s Society. Since 2006 she lived in Jacksonville and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed her many friends, playing bridge, reading and the symphony. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, W. R. Scarbrough; sisters, Emily Wallace Avent Berry and Diana Wallace Crump and her parents. She leaves her two daughters, Diana S. Jester (Steve) and Anne S. Trostel, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren along with five nephews and her childhood friend, Julia Wellford Allen.

William Ross Scarbrough, 85, died October 16, 2009 at Community Hospice, Jacksonville, FL.

He was born June 15, 1924 in Connerton, PA and was raised in Baltimore, MD. He retired as a CMSgt from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service during WWII, Korea, the Cold War and two tours of duty in Vietnam, receiving the Bronze Star.

He was an active member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL for 30 years serving as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a long time member of Good Morning Kiwanis Club, the St. Andrews Scottish Society as well as a volunteer at Maxwell AFB with the Retirees Affairs Office. He was now a member of First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, FL.

He leaves a wife of 53 years, May Wallace Scarbrough; two daughters, Diana Jester (Steve), Louisville, KY; Anne Trostel, Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, David Jester, Julia Trostel, Caroline Trostel; a great grandson, Aden Harper and a sister, Jean Caspariello (Tony), Baltimore, MD. Graveside funeral at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors, Dr. Robert Morris officiating, will be on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be at the family home on Thursday, October 29th from 4 to 6 pm. Later a memorial service will be held in Memorial Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, AL.
