George Carrington immigrated to Virginia from Barbados in 1723 and is the progenitor of the Carringtons in Virginia.

He emigrated from there to "Henrico Shire", VA in 1723 where he managed a store near Richmond with Joseph Mayo, a Barbados Merchant & the uncle of his future wife.

He married Anne Mayo, daughter of William Mayo in 1732. They lived at Boston Hill in Cumberland Co. Virginia. His family bible survives and is now preserved in the Virginia State Library.

During his life, he patented 25,300 acres of land. He occupied many public positions including clerk, justice, and surveyor,

He was a member of the
House of Burgesses. during the revolutionary war, he was a member of the Committee of Safety. He was also at times a member of the State Conventions and General Assembly.

He and his wife died within a few days of one another in 1785. He family bible survives and is maintained at the Library of Virginia.
