According to the History of Poinsett County Book, William Beard Sr. Eleanor were Scotch - Irish immigrants who arrived in South Carolina from Ulster Province, Ireland on the ship Britannia in 1768 were granted 350 acres of land in Newberry County on the Mulberry Branch of Duncan Creek, a tributary of Enoree River, in the northwestern corner of South Carolina.
