Misc. Notes
Abraham Tegarden, son of Abraham Tegarden and Anna Margaretha Albrecht, set sail from Hamburg with his parents and brother Wilhelm (William) on the ship
Harle, arriving in Philadelphia in 1736.
In August, 1743 he married Mary Parker in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Tegardens made their way to the then-western frontier, settling in what is now Greene County in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The name of Abraham Tegarden appears on deeds to thousands of acres of land in that area, indicating that he was an early land trader and developer. He was also active as a
sutler, supplying goods to militias during battles with Native Americans and later during the
French and Indian War (1754-1763) and the Revolutionary War (1775-1783).
George Washington, who served as an officer during the French and Indian War, made mention of "
Tegard and his men" in his diaries. Abraham was a captain of the
Virginia Militia in 1775.
Around 1757, among his various land transactions, Abraham purchased about 330 acres on the west side of the
Monongahela River, which apparently became his residence before his death in 1783. He and Mary are most likely buried on the Monongahela property, but the exact location of their graves is unknown.
Abraham and Mary were parents of at least four children: George (1744), William (1746), Mary (1747) and Abraham (1748). Abraham (1748) served during
Lord Dunmore's war and is
mentioned in histories for that time as Captain Abraham Teagarden. Abraham Tegarden's descendants have long disagreed on the spelling of the surname, with "Teegarden" and "Teagarden" being the most common spellings.

Misc. Notes
Tegarden family historians have debated a number of theories regarding the family and lineage of Mary Parker. However, the preponderance of evidence suggests she was born about 1715 in England.
She lived until at least 1765. No record of her burial place exists, though it is assumed that it is on the 330 acre tract on the west side of the Monongahela River purchased around 1757.
Mary and Abraham were parents of at least four children, an unusually small number for a family in this era: George (1744), William (1746), Mary (1747) and Abraham (1748).
